Jewish Gauchos

A Heart of Gold

Based on a True Story

The end of the nineteenth century finds many Russian Jews, tired of pogroms and riots, looking for a new place to call home.

The Rubinov family makes its way from the Jewish agricultural village of Valiorca, Russia to Monigotes, Argentina, leaving behind memories of loved ones lost in the pogrom. They hope to be able to turn a new page and establish themselves there.

But tranquility evades the wandering Jew.

Their Gentile neighbors harass them, determined to drive them out and expel them from the land they have bought with the last of their savings.

Bullying, intimidation, threats and property destruction -

Pedro Moreno will stop at nothing to regain ownership of the farm.

But what is he afraid of?

What secret has he concealed in the farm that he must protect at all costs?

Where is the "Ciudad Prohibida (Forbidden City)," and what secrets from the past are hidden within its walls?

What is in the Moreno family's will that has been passed from father to son?

What nefarious plot is Don Jose planning in order to get rid of the Rubinovs?

Will the Rubinov family manage to meet the impossible conditions set by the government or will they lose the farm and once again be forced to pick up the wanderer's stick?

This is not just a new and enthralling plot, but a fascinating piece of history describing the lives of the "Jewish gauchos (cowboys)." Those first Jewish settlers who crossed the Atlantic from Europe to Argentina at the end of the last century worked with blood, sweat and tears to establish what have now become flourishing Jewish communities.
